Ligue 1 (French: Ligue 1) or Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons (French: Ligue 1 Uber Eats) is the league competition for professional football clubs in France. It was established in its current system in 2002, and is considered one of the elite
leagues in the world.
The French League starts in August and ends in May, and it consists of 20 clubs, each club plays 38 matches, for a total of 380 matches per season. Most matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays, but a few matches are played during
midweek evenings.
The French first division started in the 1932-33 season, and that season was won by Lille. The league lasted until 1939. It was interrupted by World War II, then returned in 1945 after the end of the war and was won by Lille Club,
which is still continuing. Saint-Etienne and Paris Saint-Germain are the most title-winning clubs with 10 titles each, followed by Olympique de Marseille with 9 titles, while the current champion is Paris Saint-Germain.
